Globe Group Seeks to Build on GCash’s Fintech Success for Future Ventures

Digital solutions platform Globe Group is set to replicate the success of its fintech arm, GCash, which is the country’s main finance super app and the only double unicorn.

Ernest Cu, President and CEO of the Globe Group, said the company’s pivot into a full-fledged techco aims to provide disruptive solutions to problems that Filipinos confront day-to-day.

In a recent interview on the sidelines of the 2023 Singapore Fintech Festival (SFF), Ernest outlined the company’s transformation into a full-fledged tech company with a mission to provide innovative solutions to everyday problems faced by Filipinos.

Discussing the rise of GCash, Ernest said Globe Group wants to repeat the success of its fintech and address issues that “no one’s paying attention to, no one’s taking the advantage of building something” by leveraging the group’s sizable resources in digital and financial solutions.

Ernest also took part in a panel discussion during the SFF, where he discussed the Globe Group’s vision of addressing the nation’s challenges and becoming responsive to its issues.

Originally a telecommunications business focused on solving communication issues for Filipinos, Globe has expanded its scope, building on its robust connectivity infrastructure, which it terms as its “unfair advantage.”

Today, beyond fintech, the Globe Group provides digital solutions in healthtech, adtech, edutech, climate tech, shared services, investments, and entertainment.

“At the end of the day, the Globe Group is a consumer service company. We are here to serve our consumers, whether it’s telecommunications, whether it’s healthcare, or whether it’s fintech. We want to instill that notion of responsiveness among our people, and I guess for me it starts at the top,”

Ernest added.
