Huawei is expanding its partnership with GCash to bring QR code payment functionality to a wider range of its wearable devices. Initially promised for the Huawei Watch GT 5 series and other selected wearables released in late 2024, the GCash Watch Pay feature will now be available on more devices.
Huawei announced the expansion at the global launch of the Huawei Mate XT tri-folding phone in Malaysia. The company also revealed that GCash Watch Pay will not only be available on its smartwatches but also on its fitness trackers.
While a complete list of supported Huawei wearables is yet to be released, the company’s commitment to integrating GCash payments into its ecosystem is clear.
GCash Watch Pay allows users to make purchases directly from their Huawei wearables by scanning QR codes. It will offer a convenient and contactless payment method. This integration streamlines the payment process, eliminating the need to reach for a phone or physical wallet.
Huawei emphasised that this feature is the result of direct collaboration with GCash. The company wants to ensure a more secure and reliable experience for its users. Importantly, the partnership operates under the regulatory oversight of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The company will announce further details regarding compatible devices and the official rollout timeline soon.
