The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the Philippines and the BDO Foundation have collaborated to enhance investor protection and financial literacy by introducing public education materials focused on avoiding financial investment scams.
The SEC and BDO Foundation launched two investor protection videos on April 4th at the SEC Headquarters in Makati City. These videos aim to inform the public about the warning signs of potential investment scams. The organisations intend that this knowledge will help individuals protect themselves from fraudulent schemes.
The SEC and BDO Foundation plan to distribute the materials through programs, training sessions, and seminars. The Commission has also made the videos accessible on its social media accounts.
SEC Chairperson Emilio B. Aquino acknowledged the detrimental effects of fraudulent activities.

“But we know that the SEC cannot do everything on its own. This is why we are thankful that we have the likes of BDO Foundation as our partners in promoting investor education among the public,” he added.
The partnership between BDO Foundation and the SEC of the Philippines began in 2023. It started when the BDO Foundation joined the SEC Capital Markets Promotion and Awareness Inter-Agency (SEC CAMPAIGN Network).
This network is a part of the SEC Communication, Advocacy, Network (SEC CAN!) initiative, which is the Commission’s investor education program. The initiative seeks to create partnerships with public and private organisations to expand the reach of financial literacy efforts.
BDO Foundation President Mario A. Deriquito stated that financial education is a core program of the BDO Foundation. He emphasised the foundation’s belief in equipping Filipinos with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage their finances effectively.

“We also believe investor protection is an important aspect of financial education, and by embarking on this, we will be able to better serve sectors that we are already serving, particularly teachers, OFWs and their families, civil servants, and MSMEs, sectors which also comprise part of SEC’s target audience, ” he continued.
