GCash has officially launched its new ‘Tap to Pay‘ feature at a “GCash Spotlight” event in Taguig City. The new service allows users to complete transactions by tapping their device or card, without the need for a signature or PIN.
The feature utilises near-field communication (NFC) technology, which allows users to pay at Mastercard-enabled terminals. GCash’s partnerships with Alipay+ and Mastercard enable this capability both in the Philippines and overseas.
Ferdie Perez, Product Innovation Head at GCash operator G-Xchange Inc., said the Tap to Pay feature aims to provide users with more convenient payment options.
The programme featured interactive segments related to purchasing decisions to highlight the new payment method.
Enabling the service on an NFC-capable Android phone involves a few simple steps. Users first need to log in to the GCash app and select the ‘Tap to Pay’ option on the home screen.
Next, the app will ask for permission to use the phone’s NFC feature. After the user receives an in-app confirmation, the service will be ready to use
To pay, customers simply open the app and hold their smartphone near the payment terminal.
