GCash has launched a new contactless payment solution that allows for global use of its ‘Tap to Pay’ feature. The service enables users to make payments at more than 150 million Mastercard acceptance locations worldwide using Near Field Communications (NFC) technology.
This global functionality for the e-wallet is the result of a collaboration between Alipay+ and Mastercard.
The feature allows users with NFC-enabled Android phones to complete a payment by tapping their device on any Mastercard-accepting point-of-sale (POS) terminal.
Such capability complements GCash’s existing QR code payment system, which is available in over 50 destinations globally, significantly expanding the international acceptance of the e-wallet.

“With Tap to Pay, we’re not just modernising payments; we’re empowering Filipinos with a seamless and globally competitive solution that is locally relevant and universally accessible,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of GCash mobile wallet operator G-Xchange, Inc.
The companies stated that robust security is a core component of the service, with authentication protocols and data encryption used to protect every transaction from fraud.
Douglas Feagin, President of Ant International, noted that the collaboration with Tap to Pay by GCash reflects a growing trend in the payments industry.
