A new Mobile Tap to Pay feature is now available in the UnionBank Online application. Its purpose is to offer users a fast and secure way to make contactless payments.
The feature allows customers to make payments using any NFC-enabled Android device linked to their UnionBank Visa Debit or Credit Card.
After a one-time activation on the app, users can complete transactions by tapping their phone at any Visa contactless terminal worldwide, eliminating the need for a physical card.
To secure each transaction, Visa’s tokenisation technology substitutes a unique, encrypted code for the user’s actual card details. As a result, merchants never receive or store the customer’s sensitive card information during a payment.
Albert Cuadrante, UnionBank’s Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, described the new function as a “customer-first innovation”. He added that it “brings security, speed, and simplicity of making payments directly via our mobile app”.
He added that UnionBank designed the feature for everyday situations to make transactions “seamless and stress-free”.
The tap-to-pay function can be launched from the app’s login screen and accessed using biometric authentication. Users have the flexibility to link or unlink their preferred debit or credit card within the app to suit their payment needs.
The feature is compatible with millions of Visa contactless payment terminals globally, from local shops to overseas retailers.
To use the new function, customers need to update their UnionBank Online app.
