The initiative aims to address operational bottlenecks where business units previously relied heavily on technical data teams to generate reports and dashboards.
By empowering over 200 users across operations, technology, and product development to query data independently, the bank aims to achieve data request turnaround times that are three to five times faster once the system reaches its end state.
Dennis D. Omila, UnionBank’s Chief Transformation Officer, highlighted the shift towards data democratisation.

“Data is the foundation of any successful AI transformation in banking… By empowering our business teams with direct access to analytics through natural language, we’re not just improving operational efficiency, we’re democratising data insights,” Omila said.
The bank reported that the implementation has already resulted in an approximately 30% reduction in operational costs.
Current use cases for the technology include campaign monitoring and account management.
Precious Lim, Country Manager at AWS Philippines, noted that AI adoption in the country is growing at 50 per cent year-on-year.
