GCash has expanded its technical integration with Lawson convenience stores across more than 200 nationwide branches.
The project pushes the local retail sector’s digitalisation forward by making payment and cash-in services more efficient.
The upgraded checkout system runs directly on GCash for Business – EasyPOS. It allows customers to easily complete transactions using QR codes, cards, or contactless tap methods
Additionally, all Lawson locations now operate as physical over-the-counter cash-in hubs. These branches enable users to fund their digital wallets directly at the store.
Such dual functionality actively connects physical cash with the digital economy. The integration represents a crucial step for a country where a significant portion of the population remains unbanked.
Paul Albano, Vice President and General Manager of Business to Business at G-Xchange, noted that placing these services in highly accessible retail environments supports practical financial inclusion.
He stated that the collaboration “bridges the gap in digital finance and delivers tangible financial inclusion to more communities nationwide”.
Lawson Philippines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo-based Lawson Inc., has been actively pursuing digital enablement to meet shifting consumer preferences.
Takuya Goto, Chief Financial Officer of Lawson Philippines, remarked that the partnership elevates the standard retail experience by transforming the stores into reliable channels for modern, secure financial services.
As part of GCash’s broader strategy, the rollout integrates digital tools into daily physical touchpoints to help drive the Philippines’ transition towards a cash-lite economy.
