The City of Victorias local government unit has officially launched the VICitizen, a digital ID card developed in partnership with Visa and GCash to serve as a modern local government ID.
This comprehensive card functions as a valid identification document, alongside acting as a digital prepaid card and cashless payment tool.
Local authorities initially distributed the physical cards to senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disabilities across the province.
The initiative allows vulnerable users to safely receive government financial aid directly to their accounts.
Cardholders can also use the newly issued tool to withdraw cash from automated teller machines and shop online.
Through this project, the mobile wallet provider remains committed to helping local government units modernise public services.
The collaboration ultimately aims to ensure that the benefits of the expanding digital economy reach every citizen across the country.
