Philippine insurtech firm RuralNet has processed more than PHP 400 million in digital microinsurance claims, covering 33,000 payouts across the country.
The milestone precedes a scheduled expansion into natural calamity protection by the third quarter of 2026, which aims to shield underserved communities from climate volatility.
The upcoming rollout responds to an advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration regarding the onset of El Niño conditions.
RuralNet operates an API driven platform that currently protects over 6 million Filipinos through distribution partnerships with rural banks, cooperatives, and microfinance institutions.
The company has established a presence in 81 out of 82 provinces, helping to address a significant protection gap in areas where financial access remains historically low.
According to data from the Insurance Commission, countrywide insurance penetration recently reached 1.78%, leaving millions of low-income households exposed to financial shocks.

“This latest milestone proves that our affordable microinsurance plans can make a real difference for thousands of families when they need it most,” said Justin Arcenas, Founder and CEO of RuralNet.
Arcenas added that the company plans to scale its climate resilience solutions to alleviate economic pressure and provide immediate aid on the ground after disasters.
The proprietary digital infrastructure allows partner institutions to turn around payouts 75% faster than the traditional industry average, maintaining a 97% claims approval rate.
The nationwide network receives support from CashKO Insurance Brokerage, a wholly owned subsidiary that serves as the fifth-largest microinsurance provider in the country.
CashKO has generated PHP 400 million in total premiums and continues to expand its reach through more than 5,000 branches across the Philippines.
