De La Salle University (DLSU) and GCash have launched the NextGen Tech Builders Program, an industry-designed fintech engineering elective bringing real-world technology practices into the university classroom.

DLSU undergraduate students will get hands-on experience with the technologies and development practices used to build and operate large-scale digital platforms, starting when DLSU’s Term 1 classes begin on September 3, 2026.

Through the elective, students will learn technologies commonly used in fintech development, including Java, Spring Boot, cloud computing, and microservices.

GCash will provide course materials and cloud-based lab environments, and the program includes a fintech capstone project where students apply what they learn to real-world challenges.

Dr. Ron R. Resurreccion, Dr. Robert C. Roleda, Dr. Ethel Ong, and Shirley Chu of DLSU joined Mynt’s Chief People Officer Robert Gonzales and Chief Information Security Officer Miguel Geronilla to sign the partnership.

DLSU students also attended a forum introducing the elective, where a DLSU alumnus and member of the GCash Cadetship Program’s 2023 batch shared their career journey in fintech.

“Through this collaboration with GCash, we are creating opportunities for our students to learn directly from industry practices and better prepare for meaningful careers in fintech and technology,” said Dr. Ethel Ong, Dean of DLSU’s College of Computer Studies.

“Through the NextGen Tech Builders Program, we are bringing our industry experience into the classroom to help students build practical, relevant skills and create a stronger pipeline of locally trained fintech engineers,” said Robert Gonzales, Chief People Officer at Mynt.

Students who complete the elective will have access to fast-tracked pathways into technical roles at GCash, directly linking their coursework to potential career opportunities.

The program builds on GCash’s existing technology cadetship model, extending industry training earlier into students’ academic careers.
