The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has warned the public about scammers who falsely claim to be its officials or employees. The BSP said that scammers may send letters or electronic messages to get people to deposit or transfer money to a bank or financial account.
In some cases, these scammers could present bogus BSP identification cards bearing the name and photograph of a BSP official or employee, with a forged signature.
The BSP advisory said these ID cards are fake, adding that the mobile numbers, e-mail addresses and other contact details the scammers use are not authorised contact details of the BSP or its officials and employees.
The central bank said its officials and employees do not solicit funds or payments from the public for charitable purposes, or for the release, recovery or restoration of funds.
The BSP advised the public not to send money, transfer funds or disclose personal account or other financial information in response to such communications in a BSP impersonation scam.
People should also refrain from clicking suspicious links or downloading attachments from unknown or unverified sources.
