Maya Philippines is in talks with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) about launching a Personal Equity and Retirement Account (PERA) product. BusinessWorld reported the plan this week.
Kristoffer Rada, head of corporate affairs at Maya Group, said the company is testing the product on its platform.
Maya is also looking for the right institution to partner with for PERA onboarding.
He added that the BSP is “quite keen to have more financial institutions roll out PERA.”
Maya has not given a launch date. Rada said the rollout depends on its product and IT teams building PERA into Maya’s core platforms.
Part of the BSP’s Open Finance Pilot
Maya is one of seven financial institutions in the BSP’s Open Finance for PERA Pilot, launched in July 2025.
The pilot lets Filipinos open a PERA account by consenting to share the know-your-customer data their bank or e-wallet already holds, without filling in manual forms.
ATRAM Trust Corp., BDO Unibank and BPI Wealth act as PERA administrators, managing the investments.
In March, the BSP said customers of G-Xchange (the operator of GCash), UnionBank, Philippine National Bank and RCBC could open PERA accounts fully online through ATRAM, according to Philstar.
Maya was not among them at the time.
What PERA Offers
Created under Republic Act No. 9505 in 2008, PERA is a voluntary retirement savings and investment programme with tax incentives, meant to supplement mandatory schemes such as the SSS and GSIS.
Filipinos aged 18 and above with a tax identification number can open an account.
The BSP has said it will assess the pilot’s results before extending Open Finance to other services such as credit, insurance and investments.
