OwnBank, The Rural Bank of Cavite City, Inc., has named Don Niño Santos as its new President and CEO, according to Asian Banking & Finance.

The technology-enabled rural bank said the appointment supports its push to accelerate digital banking growth and expand financial access across the Philippines.

Santos moves up from his role as OwnBank’s Chief Risk Officer.

He brings more than 27 years of leadership experience across banking, fintech, telecommunications, risk management and regulatory compliance.

Before joining OwnBank, he held senior roles at Globe Telecom, including Group Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of GCash, and earlier held leadership positions at Metrobank.

“I am honored to lead OwnBank at this important stage of its journey,” Santos said. “Our focus is not only on growth, but on creating meaningful value for our customers while upholding the highest standards of governance, integrity, and service.”

OwnBank Chairman Mary Cheung said Santos’ appointment reflects the board’s confidence in his leadership, integrity and experience in banking, fintech and digital transformation.

Under Santos, OwnBank plans to enhance its digital banking capabilities and expand financial access for underserved Filipinos, including MSMEs and OFW families.
