Mitsubishi Corporation is investing approximately 120 billion yen to increase its stake in Philippine conglomerate Ayala Corporation.
The transaction will deepen their strategic alliance across consumer-facing businesses, building on their previous collaboration and joint investment in Mynt, the operator of GCash.
Mitsubishi expects its voting interest in Ayala to increase to 20%.
The acquisition will follow Ayala’s repurchase of its own shares through a tender offer and other means, with completion expected within FY2026, subject to regulatory approvals and applicable tender offer requirements.
Expanded cooperation will cover a broad range of consumer-facing businesses, including financial services, telecommunications and retail.
Mitsubishi plans to combine its global network and cross-industry expertise with Ayala’s business foundation in the Philippines to pursue new business opportunities.
A comprehensive alliance agreement signed in 2024 laid the groundwork for the latest investment.
Under that collaboration, Mitsubishi and Ayala jointly invested in Mynt, the operator of GCash.
Beyond consumer-facing businesses, both companies will also seek to broaden collaboration across Ayala’s core businesses, including real estate and energy.
