Maya is letting eligible users upgrade their accounts without photographing or uploading a physical ID, according to Wazzup.PH.
Users only need to provide details they already know, such as their name and birthday, or their National ID number if they have it saved.
Maya checks these details against the user’s National ID records through National ID eVerify, the Philippine Statistics Authority’s identity-verification service.
Once verified, users take a quick video selfie to help confirm their identity, then fill in only whatever additional details Maya still needs.
If Maya can’t verify a user’s information through National ID eVerify, users can simply continue with the regular ID-upload process instead of restarting.
Maya said the necessary safeguards remain in place behind the scenes even as the process feels simpler to users, with identity verification, screening and other regulatory checks still applied.
AI and automation handle routine verification tasks, while cases requiring closer attention are routed for human review.
The move follows a broader pattern among Philippine financial institutions adopting PSA’s National ID eVerify system to simplify onboarding.
GCash integrated the same system in 2025 to let users verify accounts with any form of their National ID, while BPI already lets National ID holders open accounts with just a selfie, and fintech lender Salmon has used the same integration to streamline its own KYC compliance and loan processing.
