BPI has formally adopted the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS), removing the need to upload a physical ID when opening a new account through the bank’s mobile app.
Under the partnership, BPI accounts can be linked to a uniquely verified individual through the government-backed ID system, which the bank said reduces the risk of fake account creation.

“At BPI, we believe that financial inclusion begins with access,” said BPI President and CEO Jose Teodoro “TG” Limcaoco.
He said integrating PhilSys into the app’s account-opening flow reflects that belief in practice.
BPI recorded 38% growth in digital account openings through its mobile app in 2025, a trend it attributed to more Filipinos shifting to mobile-first banking.
Joining a Growing List of NIDAS Adopters
BPI is the latest major financial institution to connect to NIDAS, following Asia United Bank, GoTyme Bank, the Philippine National Bank, and GCash.
PSA Deputy National Statistician Rosalinda Bautista has said the agency’s goal is for all financial institutions to eventually adopt the system, and PSA has also been pushing NIDAS beyond banking, positioning the National ID as a common identity verification layer for healthcare, education, and social protection services as well.
About half of Filipino adults remain unbanked or underbanked, according to BSP data, with the lack of a verifiable ID cited as a key barrier to opening a formal bank account.
