RCBC extended the promo to encourage greater adoption of digital fare payments among Filipino commuters, as more of them rely on public transit for their daily commute across Metro Manila.
The promo follows the launch of LRT-2’s Automated Fare Collection System, developed by RCBC with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), in collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Visa.

“We are grateful to RCBC and SSS, as well as Finance Secretary Frederick Go, for extending this Piso Fare cashback promo for LRT-2 passengers. It was originally set to end on 31 July, but we’ve extended it to 31 August. This is a big help to commuters, since the fare savings can now go toward other things like school allowance or buying food and medicine,” said Transportation Secretary, Giovanni Lopez, in a statement posted on DOTr’s official Facebook page.
The extension follows strong early adoption. Within two weeks of launch, unique MySSS Card users tapping into LRT-2 rose 95%, while total transit transactions climbed 57%.
Weekly MySSS Card availment growth accelerated to almost 40% after the promo began on 13 July, reflecting rising demand for the MySSS Card Powered by RCBC DiskarTech.
RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovations and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva said extending the Piso Fare is a step toward bringing digital payments into more parts of everyday Filipino life, calling transportation “a pillar of every urban Filipino’s life.”
How the Promo Works
Eligible MySSS Card Powered by RCBC DiskarTech holders with a verified, active account can continue paying Php 1.00 net fare on qualified LRT-2 rides through 31 August.
Commuters tap their card at any LRT-2 turnstile, where the regular fare is charged initially, with the excess above Php 1.00 credited back as cashback to their RCBC DiskarTech account within three banking days.
Each cardholder can use the promo for up to eight qualified rides per day; from the ninth ride onward, standard fares apply.
RCBC Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cardholders can also use the promo, though they cannot combine it with Senior Citizen, PWD, or student fare discounts.
