GCash Commute QR is now available at LRT-2, letting commuters pay their fares by scanning a QR code generated in the GCash app rather than queuing for a physical ticket.

GCash joined the launch of LRT-2’s Fast Lanes last July, alongside the Department of Transportation, Light Rail Transit Authority, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, RCBC, and Visa.

To use the feature, commuters open the GCash app, tap Commute QR, and generate a QR ticket.

They scan the code at the Fast Lane gate to enter, then tap Commute QR again and scan at the exit gate upon reaching their destination station.

The rollout builds on GCash’s earlier cashless payment launch at MRT-3 and the EDSA Busway.

“This cashback promo is a way to help invite more commuters to experience the ease of using digital fare payments and brings added value on their everyday journeys,” said Ferdie Perez, as quoted by Philstar.

Eligible users can get 20% cashback on LRT-2 rides through GCash Commute QR, and new and eligible MRT-3 riders can get 30% cashback on their first three rides, both running until 20 August.

Cashback is credited directly to users’ GCash wallets on scheduled payout dates.

LRT-2 Now Has Three Ways to Pay by Phone

GCash first launched cashless payment options at MRT-3 in July 2025, offering Commute QR alongside NFC tap-to-pay and a physical GCash Visa card.

LRT-2’s Fast Lanes launch also runs alongside separate contactless payment rollouts from Visa and RCBC and Mastercard, giving commuters multiple ways to pay fares digitally on the same line. LRT-2 served more than 58.7 million passengers last year, according to the Light Rail Transit Authority.
